Koreaaaaaaaaa Study trip! Day 2! PictoStudio!

The trip to PictoStudio pretty much made me imagination of how people do stop motion animation to life when I saw it first hand at the workplaces where they do it and such. Other than stopmotion animation, They also do 3D animation and also some modelling work (Shown in the pics beside). The models that they do were very detailed, right down to the chains on the windows of the old styled Korean houses. Another thing to note about doing stopmotion animation other than the fluid like animations they do, is that the process of doing it is very boring and needs lots and lots of patience.

For me I think its really good to see these kinds of things so to prepare us for the coming projects ahead since one of the faci's said that there might be a stopmotion animation project so yeah, it would be helpful in the future.

KOREA Trip Day 1 & 2 - Rashna :)

DAY 1 :

We visted the MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation), where we learnt about how radio programs and television programs are telecasted.

Radio programs were telecasted in studios using high tech equiptments, which can be telecasted live or recorded to be telecasted in the future...

Different Lightings and camera functions aid in creating better visual effects for a program. I also learnt about the usage of blue screens for television programs. Blue screens are used to add visual effects to the programs via editing in the computer. For example; animations at the background!! It Must not be nessarily be blue screen, green screens are used widely in other countries too.

This baby is used to shoot shots at the blue screen, for better quality of visual effects!

DAY 2 :

Time for PICTO studio in day 2. Picto studio specialise in clay animation, 2d and 3d animation..

Clay sculptures are placed in their every movement and photographed which is later edited and made into animation by the animators. It is a TEDIOUUUSSSS process! Imagine Everyy movement!!

Korea Trip!

Day 1

When we touch down on Inchon, we were welcomed by our friendly tour guide, Jimmy. He is a very friendly and funny person. He bought us to Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) which is a company which does broadcasting of radio and television. It is also a leading company. We have a chance to find out how they do their recordings in 2 different rooms. 1 is for recording of programs and another is with equipments to have sound effects. Both of the room have a control room which the editor will give commands to the DJs to tell them what to do. We also get to see their recording studio for their television shows. They uses blue screen for programs such as weather forecast so as to edit and add animations and graphics to the background. Country such as USA uses green screen instead of blue as their eyes are blue in colours which if using blue screen it will also remove their eyes.

Day 2

We went to visit Picto studio today. They specialise in doing clay animation. They have some very successful projects like KFC, and Aeko. They uses amateurs in their clay characters so as to allow the clay to have movements like moving of the arms and legs. They also uses blue screen to have effects being added.

PS: The photos i'm using for the 1st day is actually taken from my friends as my photos are stuck at my mac. And that the 2nd day i'm using some free converter to convert raw to Jpeg as my mac os is unable to connect to the internet.

Day 1: 01 June 2010

We went to visit MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation). I have learnt a lot from there as we visited their radio broadcasting studio where we learnt about how the recording (live and pre-recorded) are being carried out. They even showed us a studio where it was once used by Taeyeong from SNSD for her own recording show. We were also showed around the place where they broadcast their morning news. The place was really huge and interesting, we even learnt about the story behind the blue screen and green screen for recording. It was said that they used the green screen in Europe areas as they naturally had blue eyes.

Day 2 : 02 June 2010

Finally went to Picto Studio today! Its so much fun! We even took photo with the president of the company, which is so cool. There was also a lot of clay models around and special equipments around. I also learned that they used amateur to do the movements of the characters. It was told to us that it isn't available outside for purchase as most of time it is custom made. To substitute it, they sometimes use simple wire to construct the basic structure for the characters.

Korea Study Trip Day 2 - PictoStudio

Second day in
South Korea - Seoul.

It was a pleasure having the opportunity to visit the local animation company to learn more about their specialisation in clay animation.

They used a different type of plasticine, which is of highier quality(compared to some other schools/organisation) to model their visual props and character.

Also , they had to create the sets using material like styrofom and gel.

Programs they used were
Flash, 3dMax, Aftereffects, Photoshop, AI ect...

Seoul: Day 1 & 2

Day 1

The main focus for the day was the visit to Munhwa Broadcasting Company. There, we learned about the way they broadcasted their radio shows, the equipments which they used and the different recording studios they used. We were also brought to one of their filming studios which was the site of a morning show. There, they explained about the use of using camera angles within a single set to display different scenes and also the use of a blue screen.

Day 2

For day 2, we visted Picto Studio. They showed us a showreel of their works and the potential that claymation had. They also explained about some of the tools they used which helped them in their work. After that, they showed and explained to us some of the works that they had in progress. They were working on dioramas for the museum and also "Aeko & Lovely Friends" which is an animation which utilizes the use of clay and 3D animation as well.
