DIDM: Korea Study Trip: Jun 4, 2010

Junhao 4th day in Korea!!

We today had to visit 3 places that are well known in media and animation related in Korea.
They are the SEOUL ANIMATION CENTRE, SANGAM DIGITAL MEDIA CITY and HONGIK UNIVERSITY.

Firstly, we visited the SEOUL ANIMATION CENTREM, it started in 1999, it support domestic manga and animation in Korea. They also provide education programmes for children and teenagers. The other purpose is that they motivate creation work in industry for workers and writers.
The contribution that they had is that they provided education programmes for the children and teenagers, they are allowed to visit and experience the centre to gain more knowledge about animation as they will teach them. Their class will be around 2-3 hours per day and continue on for a few days. There are also animation, producing and 3D programmes for them. Also for the professionals, they also have educational programmes, however, theirs are in a much more higher level and it is usually 1-6 months. They also had conference with some of the well known professionals such as the professionals that are in charge of iron man 2 and avatar.
Animation industry at first started business in simple way marketing and also producing. They started gaming industry and at 2008. they support character in animation. They also create figurines for japan and also america.
After that we went to the cartoon museum, it was incredible. They had this library which had 40,000++ books regarding illustration, character and animation.. They also had films, dramas, comics, anime and also nice rest place for people to enjoy in. They even had alot of facilities such as the children playground, poster, figurines, photo gallery, character design room and more other rooms to aid them along.

Next, we went to Hongki. We were being brought to only 3 rooms to visit. They are being taught in lecture halls, they also believe that in flash, seeing is believing. They also had computer rooms for classes. They also took up various research areas such as design, media related and 3D.

Lastly, we went to SANGAM DIGITAL MEDIA CITY. They really impressed me. As they tried to bring a dumping area and trying to push it to be a high technology area. They aimed to be the world class digital media custer. Seperating facilities into core recommended and general. Core functions are core target industries such as broadcast, game, film, music and etc.. Recommended for media and entertainment such as industries, software, information technology and more.. General at least such as commercial sites for non-target industries such as office functions and retail.
Their project will be done by 2015, they are trying to developed a high technology place and also government will earn alot from such development.
They also had other developments such as the Digital Pavillion, IP-Intelligent and Info-Booth.
They will also be building the 2nd highest building in the world, which I will definitely be looking forward to.
I like the SANGAM DIGITAL MEDIA CITY as they really bring digital media to a higher level and benefit mankind too.

Day 4

Animation centre

Went animation centre, staff in charge were introducing the company to us and that's when i know the famous cartoon character Pucca was a product of their's. Their character design are more towards the cute side of animation. And i believe it did attract many's heart especially the children.

Hongik University

We were shown around the campus and seeing some arts around the campus which i think that are somethings that will leave thoughts to people, like me.

DMC

Digital Media City is a very high tech company, all the things shown is the company was very impressive & fascinating to me. From the simple buttons to control camera, to touch screen to make things more interactive really amazed me today.

Aww. its the last day today...
but the schedule is the pack-est day.

we went to Seoul animation center in the morning. the things there really amazing me alot.
i didn't know that animation can be so amazing and interesting until i really have contact with them.
i thought animation is just all about the comics and anime, but didn't know that there are actually much more things that are included in anime. love it lots, the toilet, the games let out to try, all are fabulous. (Y)(Y)

their facilities are really very high class, i guess it's an enjoyment to work there.

2nd destination: Hongik university.
we went to hongik university to look around their classrooms and to look around the universities environment.
the environment is nice, but didn't really get to see their facilities, like the place they did their projects. only went to the classroom, which is similar to RP, just tables, chairs and laptop.

den we went to DMC (digital media city) and digital pavilion.
the things here are also very interesting. even the photographing of the pictures and sending it to the email. and also other things that are fun to use and explore. it is also showing what DMC is gg to be like in the next few years.

We went to 4 places today.

First trip: Animation Center.

They have a lot of Comic collection in their Center. There some very memorable animation that I watch when I was young, for example , Slam Dunk. They have a lot of work in the center even in their toilet. It was a very interesting trip.

Second trip: Hongik University.

It was a rather simple trip around the school. We were introduced to one of the student and he tour us around the school. He also brought us to his 'work place' . He showed one of his project that he did it on flash for the kids. There was nothing much but at least I get to see what it is like to be in the University.

Third trip: DMC

Basically, most of the things there are touchscreen.

Fourth trip:

I was impressed by how great their technology is. They can create music using 'sensor-like' programs. For example, the harp could be played without strings however there is still sound produced when our hands go over it. It was really cool.

It was really a tiring trip but also a fruitful trip. =)

4th Day, officially the last day! :(

Today is the 4^th day of the study trip, which means is the officially last day of all the fun activities! I had awesome trips in Korea, meeting new people and the best part is to have an awesome Korean tour guide, JIMMY!

Today visit was somehow more fun to be compared from the rest of the other days. We went to places that are interactive, such as the Seoul Animation Centre and the Digital Media City. As well as the Hongik University, but the university trip is the only trip that are somehow boring though.

In Seoul Animation Centre they offer animation classes, production support, and animation database. They also work with one of the Singapore Company as well, in animation production. And we were told that a conference of both Avatar and Iron man 2 were held in their centre.

In Digital Media City was the most interactive place, as we able to try out and test out all the different things that they have there. With the power of IT, they able to bring us to the future. And I really find it cool, after try out all the equipments there.

In Hongik University, they shows us around their school, and the way their students were taught in class, and their school lifestyle there. As well as some of their students art achievement as well.

Day 4 - Rashna :)

DAY 4 was our last day of vists to school and centres realated to our Majors.. so here it goeS!.....

Firstly we visted the SEOUL ANIMATION CENTER..
It was super cool, they had library which had varieties of books related to animations,cartoon and etc for students, professionals and even children.

They also had exbition hall, which was reallyy COOL and fun to look around at.. they had artworks, 3d animation cartoons and games that would interest the public..
The coolest thing was their toilets...

They had mirrors in the girls toliet with animated frames:

The guys even had aim and "shoot" game in their toliets! :

Overall i enjoyed myself in this animation centre, there were way too many cute and fun animated and arts stuffs there to see and ennjoy :)

Second we visted the Hongik University, its a arts university in seoul..

There we were allowed to see their facilities, they had computer rooms, editing rooms and indoor studios built for their students.. It was a nice experience to see how other students from diffrent school work and study.. :)

Thirdly we visted the igital media city! it was a wonderful experience.. i saw many new innovative creations such as, digital canvas where u can draw without drawing materials and digital melody where we can create music without the insturuments...

Overall this study trip was awesome! i got to learnnnnn so many new innovative things about animation and my dip related stuffs! yayyy!! ;)

Korea Study Trip Day 3 & 4 - Parthiban

Day 3:

We went to a famous university in Seoul.

Went Through Their Equipments and Studios.

Then we went to taewool entertainment.

There we found out about some of the games that are online and available for gamers.

The process and hard work dedicated into the creation of the games were tedious.

Day 4:

After that we went to the Seoul animation center.

The museums and the animation center and the workplace of the animators were working.

The instructions were presented for the stop motion animation model making.

Also the place is well designed with drawings, painting and even characterized models.

Then we went to the Hongik University.

A tour on the facilities and the artwork were given.

They have an museum where unique art pieces are kept.

The Final Visit - DMC

(Digital Media City)

A city with aims of turning into a fully developed futuristic area within Seoul.

The technology that was used and why it is being used and how easy it makes life were all explained clearly.

4th day

Early in the morning we visited the Seoul animation centre, we were told that the world leading movies come to this place and have conference in there example ironman 2.

Also we visited their cartoon museum and saw a lot of mange and characters model which let us have a big eye on.

This is our tour guild in Seoul animation center, a little token of appreciation from our school.

We also visited the hongik university which is well known in art. We visited their art museum done by their students, its really unbelievable on the art work being produce.
